Brazilian franchising grew by 13.8% in revenue over the past year; check out the expectations for 2024

The annual performance survey of the franchising sector, conducted by the Brazilian Franchising Association (ABF), revealed significant growth in the sector in 2023, both in the volume of operations (6.2%) and in the number of franchise networks (7.6%).

The robust growth of franchising was also evidenced by the revenue of R$ 240.6 billion in 2023, which represented an increase of 13.8% compared to the previous year. The three segments that showed the largest expansions were Food Service (17.9%), Health, Beauty, and Wellness (17.5%), and Hospitality and Tourism (16.4%).

ABF projections indicate continued growth in 2024. The renewal of the agreement with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil) — which since 2005 has resulted in the Franchising Brazil program — and the various planned actions for this year demonstrate ABF’s commitment to strengthening Brazilian franchising in the global market.

“We are very excited about the opportunities for Brazilian franchises in the international market in 2024,” said ABF’s International Projects Manager, Bruno Amado. “With the renewal of the agreement with ApexBrasil, we plan to intensify our efforts to promote Brazilian franchises in various countries.”

Amado emphasizes that Franchising Brazil will continue to be a crucial platform for supporting the internationalization of Brazilian brands. “Our actions include participation in international events, commercial missions, and projects to promote the image of Brazilian franchising abroad,” he explains. “We are confident that with these initiatives, we will see a significant increase in the number of Brazilian brands expanding their businesses globally in 2024.”

Following the success of the previous agreement, which involved the participation of 178 companies, ABF and ApexBrasil aim to further expand the reach of this program over the next two years. To achieve this, a series of initiatives are already planned for 2024. For example, the Buyer Project is scheduled — an activity that brings together national franchisors and international investors — during the ABF Franchising Expo, which will take place in June in São Paulo. Additionally, commercial missions to China are planned in June and September, to Chile in October, and to Portugal in November.

About Franchising Brasil

Franchising Brasil is a project that aims to support the internationalization strategy of Brazilian franchise chains and their commercial promotion in the main international markets. The initiative is a partnership between the Brazilian Franchising Association (ABF) and the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil), which works to promote Brazilian products and services abroad and attract foreign investment to strategic sectors of the Brazilian economy through commercial promotion actions.
