Brazilian brand Hope launches period panties made of biodegradable fabric

Brazilian underwear brand Hope, which has a 50-year-old history, launched in October 1 Flow, a line of absorbent panties made of a biodegradable fabric. The product replaces conventional pads during periods.

The brand is a member of Franchising Brasil — a sector project for the internationalization of Brazilian franchise brands carried out by means of a partnership between the Brazilian Association of Franchising (ABF) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil). Created in 1966, the Hope group includes three leading brands in the sector, and it has 180 franchise units in Brazil, as well as international presence.

The panties are made of a high-tech biodegradable fabric that offers skin protection, temperature control and antimicrobial protection. The fabric is thinner than an ordinary pad, and the underwear absorbs all types of fluids besides the period blood, including mild urine incontinence and abnormal vaginal discharge.

According to Hope, Flow will stay at maximum performance for approximately 50 washes, which is typically around 2 years. After being discarded, the product decomposes within 3 years in landfills or other environment appropriate for the disposal of biodegradable fibers. For comparison purposes, ordinary fibers take approximately 50 years to decompose completely.

Flow panties are available in black and ballet beige as laced bikini, boyshorts with or without an elastic waistband, and high-waist for overnight use.
